Phillip Gilbert Vaca

Born May 28, 1926 in San Pedro, and passed away peacefully March 16, 2015 at home surrounded by those he loved. Phil served as a Merchant Marine during WW2. Upon his return, he began working for the Cement Masons Union as a Cement Finisher. After many years working as a Mason, he became the Financial Secretary and proudly ran Cement Masons Local 627. He also served on the Building and Safety Commission for the City of Los Angeles. He was also a member of the HCDC where he took pride in the various projects he participated in within the community of Wilmington. In the late 1980's Phil and his beloved wife Margaret of 26 years began enjoying retirement living, traveling back and forth between Wilmington and Hawaii. He truly enjoyed the Hawaiian lifestyle and playing a lot of golf. Preceding Phil was the passing of his first wife, Antonia; daughter Penelope, and son, Frankie. Phil is survived by his Beloved wife, Margaret (Makaleka); daughters, Barbara Chapman and Jacque Ryan; sister, Bertha Rosa; Brothers, Norbert and Lionel Pasamonte; 8 Grandkids; 2 Great Granddaughters many nieces and nephews and countless loving friends.
Visitation will be March 31st from 5-9pm at Del Angel- McNerney's Mortuary, Wilmington, CA. Funeral April 1, 10:00 AM at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wilmington.
