Phyllis Hassett Short Obituary
Phyllis Hassett Short

Phyllis Hassett Short passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her children on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at her home in Redondo Beach, California. Phyllis was born on July 10, 1924 in Limerick City, Ireland, to Patrick and Anna Hassett. At the age of 23, she immigrated to Troy, New York, where she worked as an accountant while living with her aunt.

Phyllis was married to Bill Short in 1949. Together, they raised one son and two daughters in Redondo Beach. Bill and Phyllis enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Phyllis had a lifelong love of music; she sang in the St. Lawrence church choir for 50 years, she was a great fan of the civic light opera, and regaled her family and friends throughout the day with impromptu songs inspired by a random word or phrase of conversation. She also loved to spend a day at the race track with Bill and friends. She spent much of her free time volunteering as a Eucharistic minister for St. Lawrence.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters Pauline (John) and Karen (Joe); her son Michael (Chris); eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15 at 11:00 am at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, 1900 S. Prospect Ave., Redondo Beach. The family will greet friends in the church hall immediately after the service. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
