Ralph Anselmo Marzullo

Obituary Condolences

Ralph Anselmo Marzullo of Torrance was born on October 1, 1915 in San Jose, CA and died on February 13, 2011 in Torrance, CA. He was a devoted husband and father, and friend to many in the South Bay. His entire working life was spent in the aircraft/aerospace industry. His career began by building DC-2 airplanes for Douglas in the mid-thirties, then later P-51 Mustangs during WWII for North American Aviation, also worked on the Apollo program, and on components for the Space Shuttles. North American Aviation later became North American Rockwell, and then merged with Boeing. He and his wife, Calista built a house and home in the late '40s where they lived for the rest of their lives. He was very active in the Torrance YMCA from the early '60s until he was well into his nineties. He led hiking camps for years on the John Muir trial in the Sierra Nevadas, served on the YMCA Board of Directors, and tirelessly campaigned for funds for them over the years. He had many hobbies: carpentry, gardening, rock collecting, lapidary, faceting and fused glass jewelry. He is survived by three sons: John Marzullo and his girlfriend, Linda Falzone; Andrew Marzullo and his wife, Cathy Jarvis Marzullo, and Keith Marzullo and his wife, Susie Armstrong; his nieces, Susan Goff, Linda Brown and Kathryn Nguyen; and nephews, Wayne Okerman and Richard Okerman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Calista Washburn Marzullo and his sister, Mary Marzullo Okerman. Per his wishes, he will be cremated by the Neptune Society of San Pedro. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Torrance YMCA at 2900 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance, CA, 90505, Attn: Melissa Velasco. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
