Raymond Duran Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Ray Duran announces his passing on Friday, August 24, 2018. He was born in Los Angeles on July 7, 1941, preceded in death by parents, Manuel and Elfida Duran. He was a devoted and dedicated husband, as well as a loving, caring, selfless, and inspirational father (in law), grandfather, brother (in law), uncle, cousin and friend. Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, who has been by his side for 53 years, his daughter Michelle, their sons and daughters–in–law: Ray (Martha), Mike (Dione), Paul (Yvette), and their grandchildren: Nicole, Morgan, Jillian, Joshua, Daniel, and Madison, as well as his sister (Dora), and his brothers (Bob, Gil, and Art). Ray moved to San Pedro in 1972, and lived a blessed and rewarding life here over the past 46 years. He always provided for his family through his career as a Communications Engineer with Pacific Bell and Comcast, and later as a consultant. He designed and oversaw the implementation of the entire telecommunications infrastructure for the Olympic Village, and surrounding venues, of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Ray impacted and influenced the lives of so many people, especially here in San Pedro, as a coach at Peck Park, and as an active member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #966. He was a great man of character and integrity with an unselfish heart, who always put the needs of others ahead of his own, and had an open door policy into his home, where he made everyone feel like family. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 30th at McNerney's Mortuary, from 5-7 pm, with Rosary at 7 pm, and Funeral Mass on Friday, August 31st, at Mary Star of the Sea, at 12:30 pm, with burial immediately following at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to: San Pedro Elks #966, 1748 Cumbre Dr., San Pedro, CA. 90732, "The Rebuild Donation", in the name of RAY DURAN.
