Rena Bean Obituary
Rena E. Bean

Pierina Eva Barra, also known as Rena, BaBa, Ba Bean and Aunt Pete, was born on August 16, 1915 to Giacomo and Margherita Barra in Eveleth, Minnesota. She was the second born with 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Irma, Lee, Andrew, Raymond and Danny. Rena was the last of her siblings to pass away. She arrived in Harbor City in 1925 and attended Harbor City Grammar School and Narbonne High School. Rena married Lemuel Michael in the early 30s; from that marriage came Joan Michael Watson and Thomas Michael. Rena's father had a house moved from Point Fermin to Harbor City, where she lived from 1939 until 1966. The house was busy with family and friends visiting, drinking coffee and playing Pinochle; there was often lots of laughter. She divorced in 1948, and married Chester Bean. Marena Bean was born four years later to her mother's surprise and her father's delight. Chester and Rena started Lomita Blueprint in 1955. This was a good time to start a blueprint company as building was very robust. Chester, Rena, Tommy and Marena moved to Lomita in 1966. Chester died in 1970. Rena closed the blueprint shop on the day of the funeral and reopened the next day. She kept it going until 1977. She worked for the new owner as a blueprinter for several years. She loved working in her garden, which was filled with vibrant flowers. Each Christmas Eve, she would open her house to family and friends, where there was lots of good food and always See's Candies. Also, she initiated picnics at Avril Park in San Pedro each June, where again there was food and fun. Some of the brave ones would slide down a hill on a large block of ice. Rena loved her family and having them around her. She leaves behind two daughters, Joan Watson and Marena Riggin; along with two grandsons, Fleming Watson and Michael Watson. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, 3:00pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rena's name to: Gideon's International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214 (615-564-5000) www.gideons.org.
