Rhoda Martin Obituary
Rhoda Martin
September 7, 2012

Rhoda Warrenback Martin, born on April 15, 1926, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2012 at the age of 86. Rhoda was born in Providence, Rhode Island and moved to California with her family after World War II. She attended UCLA and eventually met her soul mate Sam Martin. She and Sam were residents of San Pedro for almost 40 years where they raised a family and owned a landmark men's clothing store, Sam Martin's. Rhoda was always full of life and loved learning new things. She was an avid golfer for many years, loved gardening and was always involved in community activities, such as HELP of Ojai and the Ojai Garden Club. She loved playing Bridge and Mah-Jong and was active in a movie group. Recently she had been taking guitar lessons and was always looking for the next new activity she could learn. Her personality was infectious. She always had a smile on her face and her laughter could be heard for miles. She and Sam spent their retirement years in Ojai where they were well known members of the community. She loved her family and friends and always put everyone else first. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam, and her grandson, Kyle. She is survived by her sons David Martin (Joanne) and Allan Martin, her daughter Roberta Douglas (Bruce), her brother Melvin Warrenback, granddaughter Megan Martin-Elliott (Addison), grandson James Shinn (Kelly) and her great-grandchildren Haley and Christian Shinn. She had an impact on everyone she met and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A memorial service in her honor is pending. Please contact one of her family members for further information. In lieu of flowers please send donations to HELP of Ojai, P.O. Box 621 Ojai, CA 93024 in memory of Rhoda Martin or the Kyle Martin Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at Lynn University, 3601 N.
