Richard Lane Blackson

Richard Lane Blackson (Rick) gracefully passed away July 30th, 2015 at the age of 59 in San Pedro, CA. He is survived by Leslie, his loving wife of 30 years. Rick graduated from Coshocton High School in '74. In '75 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as Radar Electronics Technician. He reported to the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) in San Diego Feb.'76 and served 4 years. The Kitty Hawk was instrumental in the Iranian Hostage Crisis of '79. His last 2 years were spent at N.A.S. Miramar in San Diego and was honorably discharged in '82 receiving 2 Good Conduct Medals and numerous ribbons. Rick continued his career as a Navy civilian contractor working in Hawaii, Japan, Guam and the West Coast. It was while sunbathing on a Hawaiian rooftop in '84 Rick met Leslie, the love of his life. Rick and Leslie married July 7,'85 in San Diego, CA. In '88 they moved to Los Angeles to begin new careers. Rick became a Job Superintendent for thousands of homes in Los Angeles area. Rick ("Rick-the-Stick") was an excellent pool player competing in the National Amateurs in Las Vegas. Rick was funny, witty and loved limericks and telling jokes. Once he made you laugh, his job was done. Rick's love of animals, especially dogs, was second only to his love of Leslie. He was one of the original founders of the off-leash dog park in San Pedro. He is also survived by his sisters, Sheila Chanay of Dublin, OH and Monica Stephenson of St. Louisville, OH; niece Jennifer Chanay of Jupiter, FL; nephews Bruce, Brad and Brent Wheeler of Newark, OH; and his beloved dogs, Sandy, Ginger, and Princess "P-Nut". Rick is predeceased by his Mom, Audrey (Anderson Patch), Dad, Wayne and Stepfather Herb Patch, all from Coshocton, OH. Rick was a good and loyal man and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local dog shelter "In Remembrance of Rick Blackson, a good man and a good husband". A celebration of his life to be announced.
