Born March 11, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, moved, was educated and lived in South Bend, Indiana, married Sherwood after the War and moved to California in 1947. In 1955 they settled in Manhattan Beach and Rita became active in American Martyrs Church, the Dolphins and Neptunaians of Manhattan Beach, and their state affiliate, the California Federation of Women's Clubs. She remained active in Federation for 60 years and held many board positions at the club, district, and state levels. She was passionate about children's art and music programs, chairing those programs at state level. In recent years, she focused her volunteer hours through the Woman's Club of Redondo Beach.
Rita's favorite hobbies were gardening and cooking (she chaired American Martyr's first cookbook.) If she entered her flower arrangements in garden shows, she won numerous ribbons, including 1st place.
Rita is widowed and survived by four children: Sherita, Val, Scott, and Jen, She had 3 grandchildren.
