Bob and his brother, Richard, were raised in the Pico/Robertson area of West LA. After graduating from Hamilton High School, he went on to receive a Bachelors degree in chemistry from UCLA in 1965, and then continued his studies receiving a PhD in organic chemistry in 1969. Bob then spent a year at John's Hopkins where he earned a post-doctorate degree. He then followed his wife Karen, a dental hygienist, into the dental profession, and received his D.D.S. degree from UCLA in 1974, and his orthodontic specialty certificate from USC in 1976. Dr. Denny started his orthodontic career in Montebello, and after several years, opened an additional office in Torrance. He spent over 30 years serving both communities. During his undergraduate studies at UCLA he met his wife, Karen, and they married in 1966. Together they had fourchildren: Dr. Trevor Denny of Santa Barbara, California, Dr. Mary June Wagner of Menlo Park, California, Dr. Garrick Denny of Palos Verdes, California, and Dr. Cabot Denny of Manhattan Beach, California. All four children have followed their mother and father into the dental profession and have become dentists as well. He spent most of his weekends running with his good friend, Enrique Gonzales, and riding his bike with Karen on the Hermosa strand. Family vacations consisted of packing up the suburban and driving to his favorite destinations: Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Mammoth, and Lake Powell. Robert will be laid to rest on Monday morning.
