Robert Jason Calvert

October 1920 to
April 2016

It is with great sadness that Charlotte Calvert Ebbett of New Zealand, and Deborah Calvert, of Orange County, the daughters of Robert Jason Calvert, and Raymond Ebbett, son-in-law, announce the death of Robert, known to family and friends as RJ. RJ is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Mary, and his sister, Virginia Demerson. RJ graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After completing his officer candidate training with the Army Air Corps, he was assigned as a Project Engineer at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio, and served as Captain during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He served his country again in 1950 in the Korean War.
His working career brought him to California in 1958. From 1961 until his retirement in 1992, RJ was Systems Engineer with STL/TRW in Interface Control for Missile and Spacecraft.
RJ and Mary have lived in Palos Verdes Estates for 58 years. RJ was active in City affairs through the years, participating in the election of City Council members and in almost all City activities. RJ was most proud of helping to form the Palos Verdes Unified School District.
RJ was an avid reader of history and a great fan of Thomas Jefferson. He also was a distance runner for many years completing over eight marathon races. RJ and Mary have many neighbors and friends in the Community, who will miss him greatly.
A memorial will be held in celebration of his life in May. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze. com/obits.
