Robert L. Cook M.D. Obituary
Our beloved father passed away November 3, 2010. Born March 14, 1925, Robert grew up in San Diego, CA, and graduated of Point Loma High School in 1942. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps as a cameraman. After the war he graduated from San Diego State College with a degree in zoology. He attended medical school at University of California, San Francisco and graduated in 1952 with a specialty in pathology and later became board certified in radiology in 1958. He Interned at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco and Kaiser Hospital in Oakland. He was a resident at Harbor General Hospital, Wadsworth V.A. Hospital and Los Angeles County Hospital. He also served on the facility of the UCLA Medical School. He moved to the South Bay in 1959 and spent most his years working as a radiologist at the former South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach. Robert had many interests including: the Stock Market, photography, architecture, Classical and Jazz music, hiking, vintage cars, growing Roses, body surfing and college football to name a few. He loved road trips and summertime would find him with one, two or three of his children visiting one or more of the national parks. Robert was predeceased in 2007 by his wife of 49 years, Norene Cook. He is survived by daughters, Marcia Cook and Karen Cook; sons, Stephen (Karen) Cook, William (Mary) Cook and Adrian (Katheryn) Cook; grandsons, Whit Hamblin, Derek Hamblin, Sloane Cook, Graham Cook and Julian Cook. He was also predeceased in 1978 by daughter, Carol Ann Cook. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The Midnight Mission, 601South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, CA, 90014.
