Robert Stuart Obituary
Robert John Stuart

Robert John Stuart, "Adventure Bob," was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 28, 1938. Before his first year of age, his parents moved to San Pedro, California. By age nine, with the help of Joe Johnson, a neighbor and ship builder at Larson Boat Works in San Pedro, Bobbie built and christened "The Swan." The sail boat was proudly moored in its own slip a few blocks away at the yacht club. At age 30, having graduated Harbor College and finished Long Beach State as well as a mandated two-year stint with the U.S. Army, Bob set off on his first tour around the world. He biked and sailed from continent to continent, watched his 911E come off the factory line in Stuttgart, and after driving around Europe and the Isles, shipped his car to San Pedro and flew home and his job as a Marine Clerk. On his return, his brother-in law dubbed him: Adventure Bob. Bob never married; he had many cherished friends. He lived in his family home in San Pedro and pursued his love of reading, travel, sailing, racing, biking, bicycling, camping, canoeing, and study. Material goods were of little interest to Bob unless they contributed to his passion for the greater adventure of life and respect for the planet. He had an abiding interest and love for his job as a marine clerk, but his philosophy was, "when the government's take is equal to or greater than my take . . . " it's time to take off for the year and go exploring. He retained his boat slip throughout his life where his boat "Happy" yet remains. Survivors are his only sibling, Dorothy Stuart Lucero, her husband, Carlos F. Lucero, of the U.S. Court of Appeals, a niece, Carla Adair Lucero, and a grand nephew, Nicholas Lucero Kolomitz. Gifts in his honor may be made to Cabrillo Beach Youth Sailing Club, 211 W 22nd San Pedro, CA 90731. Private family services to be held.
