Roger Grove Obituary
Roger Grove
1933 - 2011

Roger was born in Inglewood, California and lived in west Los Angeles until World War II broke out. His family moved to San Diego to work in the aviation industry to help in the war effort. After the war, they moved back to west Los Angeles. He attended and graduated from Washington High School. He then moved to the South Bay. He was drafted to the U. S. Army in 1956 and was assigned to Europe for 18 months. Upon completion of his time in the Army, he went to work for Sears and worked there for 35 years. In 1963, he married his childhood sweetheart, Gail. They were married for 48 years. After retirement from Sears, he became a volunteer for Ride To Fly which is a therapeutic horseback riding program on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for people with special needs; he was the Executive Director for 9 years. He often said that next to his family, the program gave him the most satisfaction. It was his passion! He is survived by his wife, Gail; son, Christopher (Lara) Grove; daughter, Heather (Ron) Treichel; and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Alison and Aileen Grove, Ian Cameron and Dylan Treichel. A Celebration Service is to be held at the First Christian Church of Torrance, 2930 El Dorado St., Torrance, on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given in his honor to Ride To Fly, PO Box 4991 Palos Verdes Peninsula. CA 90274.
