Ronald Evans Obituary
Ronald Charles Evans

"Eggsy" "Mate" "Dad"

Ron Evans, 85, of Harbor City passed away January 12, 2015 with family by his side at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Ron was born January 20, 1929 in Aberbargoed, South Wales, to Charles and Alice Evans. Ron spent his boyhood roaming the Welsh valley collecting bird eggs, a pastime that earned him the nickname "Eggsy." As a young man Ron served in the Royal Navy before starting work at Great Western Railway where he met his future wife Frances. They were married 44 years before her death in 1994.

Inspired by his Uncle Will's travels, Ron moved with his wife and young daughter to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1957. There he worked at Smiles 'n Chuckles candy manufacturer, the original home of the Turtles candy bar, and then at the Waterloo County Gaol (Jail) as a jailer.

In 1962 Ron and the family left Ontario and travelled Route 66 to Los Angeles. Shortly after arriving in L.A., Ron was employed at Dow Chemical Company, where he became known as "Mate" and worked until his retirement in 1986.

His family will miss his spontaneous singing, poetry recitations and memorable storytelling. Ron is survived by his daughter Christine Norman, son-in-law Neal Norman, and granddaughters Allison and Melissa Norman. He also leaves behind nephew Paul (Liz) Letheren of Seaford, England, and niece Jean Sanders and great-nieces Georgia and Rohanne Sanders of Bargoed, South Wales.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in Green Hills Memorial Chapel. Please sign the guestbook at greenhillsmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com/obits.
