Salvatore Orlando Obituary
Salvatore Orlando
(Sam, Sammy O)

Salvatore passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday night. Sam had been a resident of San Pedro for 55 years, originally from Gloucester, MA, where he was born in 1920. He had been a commercial fisherman as a young man, and eventually retired as a tugboat engineer with WTC. Sam was a member of the San Pedro Elks for over 50 years and enjoyed playing cards with many long time friends. He was always up for a party, especially weddings where he would dance and show everyone how to jitterbug. Sam was preceded in death by Lily, his wife and love of over 56 years. He is survived by children: Lucie and Rob Thorsen, Francine and David Beattie, Sal and Dorothy Orlando, Pam and Fred Boettcher; grandchildren: Dana and Tamis Thorsen, Robin Thorsen, Ryan and Shelby Beattie, Camren Beattie, Nicole, Christopher and William Boettcher; and great-grandchildren: Madison, Logan and Tucker. Sam is also survived by five sisters in Massachusetts, brother-in-law, Joe (Frances) Sinagra, numerous nieces and nephews and by many kids who also lovingly called him Grandpa Sammy. Donations can be made to Crestwood St. School Library Fund or Trinity Care Hospice. A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday, 4 - 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary.
