Santo Manganello Obituary
Santo (known affectionately to his family and friends as "Chick") of Torrance, beloved husband of Bernice, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the age of 85. Chick was born in Johnstown, PA in 1925, one of 13 brothers and sisters, to Samuel and Marie (Marianna) Manganello. He and Bernice, his wife of 58 years, moved to California from Hartford, CT in 1960. They have called Torrance their home for the past 30 years. Chick was retired from Hughes Aircraft where he was employed for 23 years as a quality assurance engineer. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and bowling and dancing with his beautiful wife. For many years he and Bernice were active members of the Elks Club of Torrance (Lodge 1948), the Sons of Italy (Centinela Valley Lodge #1991) and St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach. Everyone who met Chick was charmed by his warm smile, generous spirit and kind soul. In addition to his loving wife, Chick is survived by his brother, Donald Manganello of Crofton, MD; his sisters, Carmen Withers of Rockville, MD and Connie Carter of Frederick, MD and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and sisters, Phillip, Charles and Anthony Manganello, Angeline Mariotti, Hazel Weinberg, Vera Piowaty, Josephine Socha, Rose Gems and Edith Stanko. A gathering and viewing will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Funeral Service, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, 10:00am, both at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow in Rice's Lighthouse Reception Room. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Sons of Italy Foundation, 1744 W.
