Shirley May Rasmussen Grant Obituary
Shirley May
Rasmussen Grant

Shirley May Rasmussen Grant (born August 12, 1924 to Ralph and Zona Rasmussen) passed away on April 13, 2012 peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, William Grant, was a dedicated mother to David (Linda), Pamela Provence, Gordon (Tina) and Gregory (Linda), beloved grandmother to 11, and
proud great-grandmother to 19. She leaves a lasting legacy of the importance of family bonds and love, and will be remembered as a cherished friend to all who knew her. Shirley grew up in the Lakeside Club area of Tacoma, Washington where she met, and later married William Grant on Aug 31, 1947 (with the stipulation they move to "Sunny Southern California" following the wedding). Together they enjoyed the sun and water and settled in Manhattan Beach, then Rancho Palos Verdes to raise their family. They instilled in their children posterity, a love of the ocean and sailing. Shirley had an amazing connection to those around her. She made them feel instantly comfortable. Many a Thanksgiving dinner had "family" of all kinds gathered around the table. She was a matriarch who accepted everyone, and gave them her love and affection. She dedicated part of her life to spiritual learning and yearned for her family to find lasting love and peace. During her last days, she spent her time with her devoted husband, Bill and their daughter Pam. In the end, she was healthy and said "I love you" to her daughter the eve of her passing. What a precious gift she gave with those last words, as it extends to her entire network of family and friends. Shirley, you will be sorely missed. Thank you for all of your lessons. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 3pm, The Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living, 907 Knob Hill Ave., Redondo Beach, California.
