Sonja Regina Strenk Obituary
Sonja Regina Strenk

Sonja Regina Strenk passed away December 11, 2017, at the age of 79. She was born December 18, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from P.S. 127 and Fort Hamilton High School. She met her husband Mike in 1953. They were engaged April 1, 1956 and married on April 27, 1958, while Mike was serving in the U.S. Army.
They lived in Huntington, New York for 10 years, and moved with their 5 children to California in 1973. Sonja was a 44 year resident of Palos Verdes.
She was an active supporter of the Palos Verdes High School Music and Athletic programs. She served as the Lunada Bay Little League snack-shack lady for many years. Her taco boats and shouts of "put a tiger in your tank" were legendary at the ball fields.
Sonja was a 44 year member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, and was active in the Great Events Group and Martha Circle.
Sonja loved to travel with her husband Mike, and their adventures took them to many exotic locations, from Alaska to Australia, Africa, Tahiti, and Tiananmen Square. The couple shared their love of travel with their family, trailering across the United States when their children were younger, and taking the extended adult families on trips to Alaska, the Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Turkey and Greece.
Along with being a mother of five, Sonja was an important part of the success of Mike's business. She loved knitting, and her needlepoint artwork is displayed throughout her home. Most of all, Sonja loved to entertain family and friends.
Sonja is survived by her husband of 59 years, Michael, sons Russell, Gregg, Scott and Curt, daughter Deena, 3 daughters in-law, a son in-law, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held Saturday, January 13, at 2:00 pm, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions can be made in her name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 31290 Palos Verdes Dr. West, RPV CA 90275.
