Sophia Lucero

Sophia Lucero of Lomita, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on July 2, 2018 at the age of 89. She was born on February 22, 1929, and 5th born of 12 children to Alfonso and Beatriz Hernandez in Torrance, California. Family meant everything to her. Sophia was married to the love of her life, Ernest Lucero for 63 years, filled with dancing, traveling, laughter, and his music until his passing in 2013. She was highly respected, greatly loved and is survived by her daughters: Christine (Robert) Downs, Vivian (Hector) Galvez, Norma Lucero; grandchildren: Robert (Sandra) Downs, Ernest Galvez, Andrea (Joshua) Whalen, Nadine (James) Homet, Marya (Thomas) Burkhardt and Gabriel Negron; great-grandchildren: Phoebe and Eyan Downs; Aria Sophia, Noah and Tessa Whalen, Brady Homet and Emerly Burkhardt. Preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Esther Muro, Ortie Rodriguez, Alice Lanier, and Molly Torres now survived by her brothers: Albert Hernandez and Joe Hernandez; and sisters: Dolores Rodriguez, Josie Carrasco, Lupe Hernandez and Stella Hinojosa including sister-in-laws: Stella Hernandez and Ernestine Hernandez with many nieces, nephews and great life-long friends. She attended Torrance High School but moved and graduated from Narbonne High School in 1947. She was a member of the Wilhall, Banning Manor and Normandale Senior Citizen clubs. Due to her strong convictions, integrity and faith in Jesus Christ, she was always encouraging with wisdom and brought out the best in everyone she encountered. To the very end she said "My Cup Runneth Over."
Services will be held at Saint Margaret Mary Church, 25511 Eshelman Avenue, Lomita, CA. On Monday, July 16, 2018, Viewing 5:00-7:00 PM and Rosary 7:00-9:00 PM. On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon followed by Burial site services at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
