Obituary Condolences

Terese Marie Schlafer

Passed on to be with her maker on Monday, March 19, 2012. She went peacefully early in the morning in Chatsworth, California on what turned out to be a beautiful final day of winter. In a letter she told her family "Look at the sky and think of me. Feel the touch of the rain and remember me. Let the bite of the wind bring me to your mind. Now go and live and may each of you face your challenge, with the words "I'll do my best." As my mother used to tell me "angels can do no better." This truly speaks of her love for life and what it offers. Terry was born in Cook County Illinois on May 7, 1926 and her parents were Joseph and Ruth Hewson. They moved out here to California when she was a child and she fell in love with everything California had to offer. The ocean, hills, trees, cities were all important to her and she loved to see all of it. Terry was best loved by her soul mate and husband, Fred Schlafer who passed on October 1, 2011. It is our hope that they are together enjoying the fruits of their labor. Mom and Fred were married for some 35 years and truly enjoyed their time together here on earth and explored all parts of this country and made Hawthorne, California their home. Terry was originally married to James Daniel Melvin on November 11, 1948. In this marriage, raising a family was the focus and 12 children were brought into this world. They raised their children in Pasadena before divorcing in 1975. Terry is survived by 11 of the 12 children, 21 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A gathering of her family will scatter her ashes in the Pacific Ocean and remember all the joy that she brought into our lives. I speak for all of her family when I say she loved well, and so shall she be remembered. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
