Thomas and Ann Maccarrone Obituary
Thomas Paul Maccarrone
1/15/1923 – 7/7/2016

Ann Katherine Maccarrone
7/2/1926 – 7/12/2016

Thomas Maccarrone was born in New York City to Sicilian immigrant parents and was the youngest of 10 siblings. Ann Yanushefsky was born in Sioux City Iowa, to Polish immigrants, the 4th of 5 siblings. In 1944, Tom joined the Army Air Corp and was stationed in Iowa, where he met and fell in love with Ann. They married in Kearney, Nebraska in 1945 and when the WWII was over, Tom brought Ann back to New York City to meet his family. Tom ignored family tradition in 1960 when he was offered a position with NASA and relocated to Torrance, CA. All of his siblings lived within two miles of his parents in the Bronx and he was moving 3000 miles away. He packed up his wife and children, settled his family in Torrance. Tom and Ann had three children, Patricia and Peter both born in New York, and years later, Lisa, who was born in Torrance. Tom and Ann lived in the same house in Torrance since 1962. They both enjoyed golfing. Ann was a member of the Alondra Ladies Golf for many years. Tom retired from NASA at 55 and began golfing 3 times a week until the past year when he eventually quit playing to be able to stay home and take care of Ann. Ann also loved playing Bingo, both locally and in Las Vegas. She would take monthly trips to Vegas and play every session of Bingo that she could fit in her schedule. This love story continued until July 7, 2016 when Tom passed away at their home in Torrance after being under hospice care for several months. Ann had dementia and had been under home hospice since December 2015. The family didn't think Ann would notice that Tom was gone but they were wrong. Immediately Ann sensed something was different and by the next day she appeared to be having illusions and started reaching for the heavens where previously she would just lay in bed or sit in her chair quietly. Five days after Tom passed, Ann joined him. They were married for 71 years, and apparently she did not know how to live without him. Tom and Ann were predeceased by their son Peter Thomas Maccarrone in 2006, son-in-law William LeRoux in 2003, and daughter-in-law Candace Maccarrone in 1991. They are survived by their two daughters, Patricia Bales (husband Vernon Bales), and Lisa Maccarrone and daughter-in-law Linda Grasso Maccarrone. They had 6 granddaughters, Dianne LeRoux Gerrity (Patrick), Linda LeRoux Hoffman (Steven), Gelane Maccarrone Cameron, Heather Maccarrone, Marisa Maccarrone (George Russell) and Brittany Maccarrone and 2 grandsons, Brian LeRoux and Matthew Maccarrone. They also had 11 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 7th, 2016 at 2 o'clock. Call Lisa 562-208-0680 for details.
