Timothy King Obituary
Tim King, a native of the South Bay, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2010. Tim was a retired LAPD Harbor Area Captain. Professionally, Tim was in charge of security at two venues during the successful 1984 Summer Olympics. He also implemented the Hollywood Division Bike Detail, established the 3/12 work plan and started the Crisis Response Team. As a parishioner at St. Margaret Mary's Church, Tim volunteered in the Youth Program and chaperoned the World Youth Days in Denver and Paris. He worked the Lomita Fair for years. He will be greatly missed at Kaiser, Little Company and Torrance Memorial Hospitals as the annual Santa Claus who visited the sick children and anonymously donated toys to them. He was appointed to the LAUSD Local District 8 LDPCAC and was proud of creating S.P.I.N. (school principal/police information network). Tim served two terms as a member of the Lomita City Council and was recently re-elected. He held memberships in the Eagles, Kiwanis, FBINAA and Emerald Society. He earned a Masters Degree from CSULA and a drivers training credential. He is preceded in death by his father, John Sr.; and four beloved dogs, Sandy, Jessie, Hilary and Chelsea. Tim is survived by Valerie, his devoted wife of 35 years; mother, Janie; brothers, John (Nancy), Fr. Greg, and David (Susan); nephews, Sean (Yanira), John William "JW"; nieces, Molly (Nick) Foassis, Sheryl, and Shauna King; great nephews, Daniel, Michael King, and Lukas Foassis; and great nieces, Makena Foassis and Victoria King. Vigil service 6:30pm on Wednesday; Funeral Mass at 11am on Thursday, both at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to LAPD Harbor Division Explorers or Lomita Sheriffs Explorers.
