1938 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Long Time Palos Verdes Resident Passes Away

On August 28, 2015, Virginia (Gigi) Ellen Gonzalez, 77, peacefully passed away at her home of 43 years with her family by her side.

Virginia was born on January 6, 1938 in Culver City, California to Juanita M. and Bruce T. Dayton. At the age of 10, she and her family moved to Rio de Janiero, Brasil, when her father took an overseas assignment with Douglas Aircraft. She graduated from Bennett College for girls in Rio. As a young adult, Virginia took up waterskiing, and enjoyed performing in ski exhibitions around Rio. She traveled extensively throughout South America with her parents and it was then that her love for travel and adventure was born; a passion that she enjoyed with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. Virginia fell in love with the country, language, culture, and people of Brasil. This connection remained throughout her life.

On June 12, 1960 Virginia married Rodolfo (Rudy) Gonzalez after a whirlwind romance which began by a chance meeting in New York City. They started their family in Venice, CA with the births of their 3 children. From that day forward, Virginia's life was lovingly devoted to her family. Over the decades, Virginia quietly and often without notice or recognition, positively touched the lives of many through her compassion, generosity, kindness, and love.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Sally Perrone; her 3 children Karla, Anita, and Bruce and their spouses: Pat, Joe, and Jennifer, and her 6 grandchildren; Alex, Lindsey, Daniel, Katie, Christopher, and Emily. She is preceded by Rudy Gonzalez, her loving husband of 50 years.

Virginia's life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Rolling Hills United Methodist Church (26438 Crenshaw Blvd, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274). Gigi will be cherished, remembered, and greatly missed by her family, extended family, friends, and countless people who loved her as a second mom.
