Virginia Ybarra Slater Palacios Obituary
Virginia Ybarra Slater Palacios

Born to Rosalio Ybarra and Mary Ybarra Mosqueda on April 1, 1936 in San Pedro, our beloved mother passed from this life on June 1. She grew up with her sister Lupe (Gonzales) in La Rambla and later moved next door to the Anderson Recreation Center where she was once named the May Queen. She graduated from Banning High School's night program as Valedictorian of the class of 1965. She went on to work as a bookkeeper for Community Furniture in Wilmington for over 20 years. Later she was employed by LAUSD for over 15 years at Carson High School. Through the years our mother enjoyed bowling with friends, going out dancing, and was an avid reader. Her passion was reading about the history of British royalty and she could inform you on the entire lineage of all the kings and queens of England. She never let life's challenges get the best of her and she met every difficulty, including her illness, with courage and strength. She will remain in our hearts forever. She joins her son Jacob Slater who preceded her in death and is survived by her children Richard Slater, Laura Gardner, and Raquel Reinhart. She is also survived by her beloved friend since childhood, Raquel Molpus. Virginia leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.
