William P. (Bill) Fields

Bill lost his battle with cancer peacefully at home with his family on 3/1/2015 at the age of 77. Born in North Carolina to a Share Cropper, preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Julia B. Fields; four brothers; and four sisters.

After a short enlistment in the Air Force, he married and had a family.

He came to California in 1962 and became a permanent resident in the Carson-Torrance area the last 52 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Eva; 3 sons, Bill Jr. of Simi Valley, George of Nevada and Joseph (Theresa) of Arizona; daughter, Kathy Brackett of Nevada; 3 stepdaghters, Bonnie Santiago (Nick) of Long Beach, Karran Webb of Texas and Ruth Castro of Carson; stepson, Richard Webb (Laura) of Arizona; and lifelong friend, Cathleen Hatfield of Nevada; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was employed at Mattel, Vertue Bros, and Harvey Aluminum until 1967. We went to RubberTech and followed the new owner to Rubber Craft from 1992 to 2012. He retired for medical reasons. He kept associations of just short of over 48 years.

He was a member of Torrance Elks Lodge #1948 and enjoyed hosting events for the Special Olympics in Parker, Arizona with Elks Lodge #1929.

He volunteered at Carson High School. He was also a member of VFW, , V.V.M.F., American Legion and many Emergency Memorial Funds. He loved playing Bingo at the Samoan Church of Carson, and winning at the casino until the day he went home to his Lord.

Celebration of his life will be April 18, 2015 at 11am at Hope Community Church, 129 E 223rd Street, Carson, CA.
