William Nickerson

William Nickerson, the son of Eugene and Lucille Nickerson, passed away on January 30 2015 at the age of 85. He was born in Los Angeles on November 12, 1929. Bill graduated Washington High School, and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Navy reserve during the Korean War. Bill was a longtime resident of Torrance and Palos Verdes Estates. He worked for Good Year Tire & Rubber and in 1961 switched careers working for Traveler's Insurance and later opened his own agency Nickerson Insurance in Lomita. He served as President of the Independent Insurance Brokers of the South Bay, and was honored the Boss of the Year Award by the South Bay Chapter of the NAIW. He served several years as a Deacon at Manhattan Beach Community Church and was a regular at the Palos Verdes Mens Breakfast Club. He was a supporter of the YMCA which he was very involved in as a kid and through his teenage years. His enthusiasm for the YMCA continued with his son, Jeff in Indian Guides, tri- gray Y, and like his father Jeff continued to be actively involved as a Camp Counselor and other various jobs at the YMCA summer camp. Activities with family and friends included UCLA football games, Dodger games, a fan of Indy Car racing, extensive travel, hiking, sailing, photography, skiing, both water and snow. He is survived by his wife, Edith Nickerson; children, Jeffery (Mary) Nickerson, Joleen Nickerson, Alison (Charles) Jarnecke; grandchildren, John W. Nickerson, Robert T. Nickerson, Christopher C. Jarnecke, Jennifer L. Michael, Martin W. Michael. A Private Burial Service with immediate family will take place Saturday, February 7, 2015. A celebration of life in the near future.
