William Robert Laine

1974 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
Billy was born August 28, 1974, passed away on September 11, 2011, after a courageous four year battle with leukemia. Billy was surrounded by his loving family at his childhood home in Manhattan Beach. Billy graduated from Mira Costa High School and Cal State Dominguez Hills, earning his teaching degree. Upon graduation from CSUDH he took a two year teaching assignment with Teach for America in Arizona. For the next several years Billy continued his educational and teaching career in Northern CA and assisted Pepperdine University with their Summer Tech Camp as one of their directors. Billy was blessed with a brilliant and curious mind which made him an intuitive and sensitive teacher who inspired his students to focus on quality over quantity. Billy was a gifted singer and actor, who appeared in productions at Mira Costa High School, The Civic Light Opera, Westwood Playhouse, Redondo Union High School, and various community theaters. He was loved by his many friends and known for his brilliant sense of humor and contageous smile. Billy valued and loved his family and will be dearly missed by his parents, Jeff and Jane Schonberger of Manhattan Beach, William Laine of Henderson, Nevada; his grandparents, James and Allison Harding of Laguna Woods; his loving sisters, Jenny (Richard) Marcinkowski and Katie Schonberger; nephew, Jeffrey; and niece, McKenzie, who will truly miss their "Silly Uncle Billy". He will also be missed by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Honoring Billy's request, his ashes will be scattered at sea in a private memorial with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made in his name to Teach for America. www.teachforamerica.org/donate. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
