Rex Bosley Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Rex C. Bosley, MD, of Boulder died on June 12 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. The family welcomes you to join them for a Celebration of Rex's Life on Friday, June 22, at 3:30 p.m., at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder, with a reception following the service at A Spice of Life Event Center, 5706 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder. Born to Cliff and Alice Bosley in Lincoln, Nebraska, Rex attended the University of Nebraska and UN Medical School. After internship in Seattle, a medical captaincy with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, and residency at University of Colorado in Denver, he settled with his family in Boulder in 1968. An outstanding orthopedic surgeon, Rex founded Boulder Orthopedics on Alpine Street in 1968. Over the course of his three-decade career, he performed thousands of surgeries and set innumerable broken bones for Boulder's ever-active population. He was truly beloved by his patients and colleagues for his competence and genuine care. Throughout his career and retirement, it was common for someone to approach Rex anywhere in public and thank him for his good work on their back, knee, shoulder, or the like. He retired in 1998. In his spare time, Rex loved woodworking, crafting exquisite furniture from both exotic and domestic hardwoods. Hunting was another passion; he took annual pheasant-hunting trips to Nebraska or Kansas, spent many winter days on the South Platte River hunting ducks and geese, and enjoyed several African safaris. He also enjoyed fly-fishing, camping, and storytelling. As a longtime Rotary member, he participated in the scholarship committee for several years. More than anything else, he cherished his family: Helen, his wife of 56 years; his four children, David (and wife Elisa), Mark, John (and wife Jen), and Susie; his grandchildren, Sam, Bethany, Nicole, Megan, and Donovan; and his three brothers, Larry (and wife Sandy), Steve (and fiancée Val), and Craig (and wife Misty). He is survived by these family members, along with numerous nieces, nephews, significant others, and his faithful Lab, Winnie. If you like, please feel free to make a donation in his honor to the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman St., #500, Denver, CO 80203, HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield, 2594 Trail Ridge Dr., Lafayette, CO 80026 or Colorado Ducks Unlimited, 707 17th St., Suite 3200, Denver, CO 80202-3336.
