Susan Rolando Obituary
Susan Yates Rolando, 61, of Longmont, died May 11th 2018 in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Nancy Bailey and the late Bill C Yates on Jan 31st, 1957. She graduated from Centaurus High School in Lafayette, before completing a degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University. She started work at StorageTek where she met her husband, John Rolando. They were married Feb 5th 1983. Together they have two children-- Justin (31 of Pasadena) and Courtney (28 of Longmont). Susie found spirituality being in communion with nature- she loved hiking in the Front Range and summited upwards of twenty 14ers. She was an active gardener who grew flowers for her bees and vegetables for her family. Susie was an avid athlete in many disciplines: even while sick, she skied 30 days in the 2017 season. She rode her bicycle over nearly every Colorado mountain pass, held a Bolder Boulder PR of 40:12, and competed in many triathlons including a Half-Ironman. Susie communicated her love of others through the self-less and mindful giving of her time and energy. She coached multiple Odyssey of the Mind teams, volunteered at the Our Center in Longmont, and in many schools where she taught subjects including math, typing, active listening, and non-violent communication. In 2007, Susie retrained as a nurse and practiced at Meridian Boulder and with hospice care. She believed in a non-invasive, holistic medicine approach to healing and became a practitioner, teacher, and mentor of Healing Touch. In every instance, whether it was through a chance meeting walking the dog at the park, or through sharing laughter with her family and close friends, she brightened the lives of everyone around her with an unforgettable smile, enduring grace, and a message of love and compassion. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Boulder, Tuesday, May 15th at 2PM. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, May 16th, from 10AM to 1PM at the family's home.
