Billy R.D. Ball Obituary
Jan. 18, 1937 - March 5, 2018 Billy passed away at Woodland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the son of Marion Ray and Sarah (Billie) Ball. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Herta Ball; two sisters, Nadine Iott and Marilee Van Delson; two sons, Ted (Dianna) Ball, and Thomas Ball; granddaughter, Stephanie and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers passed previously, Charles and Donald Wayne Ball. Billy was born in Sulfur City, AR and moved to Woodland when he was 15. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 20 years in Korea (one tour), Vietnam (two tours), and Germany. During his service in Vietnam He received several honors including a Bronze Star Medal and two Purple Heart Medals for his bravery. After his service, he completed college and worked for John Deer and Marty Mello Trucking. He enjoyed fishing and golf. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Moose Club and American Lutheran Church. His graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m., at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, to make donations to Northern California Wounded Warriors or American Lutheran Church in Woodland.
