Frank LeRoy Bradford Sr. Obituary
May 9, 1926 - Feb. 21, 2018 Frank LeRoy Bradford Sr., WWII Veteran, passed away in his daughter Patti's arms in his home on Feb. 21, at the age of 91. Born May 9, 1926 in Woodland, Mr. Bradford was a Woodland resident his entire life. He served in the United States Navy where on the morning of May 4, 1945 four suicide-planes (kamikazes) struck his ship the "USS Morrison" in quick succession; three more grazed her and two others narrowly missed. There were also bomb explosions. Ripped apart, the Morrison sunk in 15 minutes. His ship received a second Navy Unit Commendation for this action. Mr. Bradford is survived by his four children, Michael A. (Christine) Bradford Sr., of Utah, Patti L. Bradford and Cathy DuFour both of Woodland, and Cindy Bradford of Tennessee; grandchildren, Wayne R. (Barbara) Johnston Jr., of Elk Grove, Brad Johnston and David Wilson of Woodland, Terah (Vicat) Mauricio of South Carolina, Jessie Ibrahim and Michael Bradford Jr. of Utah, and Rebecca (Mackay) Crookston of Missouri, Aaron and Caleb DuFour of Woodland, Robert (Charlotte) Gonzales and Chelsi Bradford of Tennessee, Emily, Katelyn and Michael Livingston of Utah; 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Bradford is also survived by his sisters, Ethel White, of Woodland, and Barbara Johnson, of Texas. Mr. Bradford was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Bradford; his son, Frank LeRoy Bradford Jr., and his brother, Thomas Bradford. Services will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, on March 29, at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to meet at River Cities Mortuary at 910 Soule St., in West Sacramento at 1:30 p.m., to follow the funeral procession to Dixon where Mr. Bradford will be laid to rest with his wife.
