Madelena Blanche Southard Obituary
Feb. 24, 1931 - Dec. 23, 2017 Woodland Madelena was born in Palo Alto to Italian immigrant parents, Andrew and Maria Perata. She was the eldest of three daughters. They moved to Woodland in 1942 where she attended Woodland schools, and graduated from Woodland High School in 1949. In 1951 she married William James Southard. They had four children. Madelena was a wife, mother and homemaker. She still found time to play volleyball with the city for 38 years. She worked as a Teachers Aide for 17 years and especially loved working with the youngest of children. Apparently they loved her too. Some years she had more than 300 trick or treaters at her door. One of her greatest joys (besides grandchildren), was when she would see former students, as young adults, around town, and they would say, "Hello Mrs. Southard, do you remember me"? She is survived by her daughter, Cathi (Tom) Etters; son, Robert (Susan) Southard; son-in-law, Malcolm Fenner and son, Thomas (Michelle) Southard, and her sister, Rosie Cushing; grandchildren, Brianne (Javier) Morales, Whitney (Blake) Prawl, Morgan (B.J.) Malsack and Jordyn Pereira-Southard; great grandchildren, Mateo, Dominic and Armand Morales and Logan, Scott, Emily and Hayleigh Malsack; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William James Southard; daughter, Chris Fenner; grandson, Jeffery Holly and her sister, Blanche Klenzendorf. Graveside services will be private.
