Shirley Ann Olsen Obituary
Feb. 17, 1938 - May 30, 2018 Woodland Shirley Ann Olsen, 80, passed away in the comfort of her home, Wednesday, May 30, after battling dementia. Mrs. Olsen was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Sterling, CO, to Alexander and Anne Schafer. In 1957, Shirley and her husband were stationed in El Paso, TX for two years, before they moved back to Woodland to start their family. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and auntie. She enjoyed the ocean, Disneyland, traveling, shopping (which she was great at doing!), pinwheels, birdhouses and magazines. She humored her husband by going camping every year at various campgrounds on the California Coast, Lake Tahoe, Antelope Lake and Alaska. But eventually she got her way and her favorite location ended up being Monterey, in a hotel. In high school she worked at the State Theatre, then eventually as a stay at home mother, and then a stay at home grandmother; also worked at Al's Drive In, which was her father's frosty. Survived by her husband of 61 years, Donnard Olsen; who described their life together like a fairy tale; two daughters, Kimberly (Winton) Sonju, and Tracie Harding; three grandchildren, Joshua (Roberta) Boeckholt; Matthew Harding (fiance, Megan Marin), Mindy (Chava) Mendoza; three great grandchildren, Sofia, Izaiah Dosanjh, and Adelina Mendoza; two sisters, Colleen (Keith) Rose, and Jane (Duane) Galatti; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. We love and miss you. If you wish to celebrate the remembrance of Shirley, please place a pinwheel at her home. Any donations that you would like to make, please make them to Hospice, they were there for her through her last months. Graveside funeral will be held at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22, Woodland, on Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, on July 15, from Noon to 3 p.m., at Natomas Park Club, 2101 Club Center Drive, Sacramento 95835.
