Robert Rossler Obituary

Robert B. Rossler ROSENDALE- Robert B. Rossler, 66, of Rosendale, passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Kingston Hospital. Born Nov. 11, 1945 in Kingston, he was the son of the late Ernest Rossler and Catherine Rossler Precious. Bob was raised in Rosendale and spent his entire life in his hometown maintaining his childhood friendships and witnessing the many changes in the village. A caring and unselfish person, Bob withdrew from New Paltz College in his third year of studies to work in his family's hardware store after the sudden death of this father. Later, Bob went on to careers in the insurance business, restaurant, and bar supply trade and then back to the hardware business. He worked for Page Lumber in Poughkeepsie, Singer Denman, in Boiceville, and Williams Lumber, in Rhinebeck, as store manager. He was always a dedicated and valuable employee. Bob had many interests and hobbies. He was an advid collector of stamps, toy trains, toy vehicles, and brewerania. He was most proud of his German beer glass collection, which he acquired mostly form his trips to Germany. While in Germany, he enjoyed meeting the brewmasters, owners, and locals of all the breweries he visited. His goal was to get a glass from every brewery in Germany. His collection had over 3000 glasses which he tirelessly inventoried according to the brewery, region of Germany and type of beer the glass held. In the fall of 2011, after much research, he decided to donate his collection to a museum. He packed up his collection and along with his wife, sister, and two close friends, drove to Frankenmuth, Mich. and presented them to the director of the Frankenmuth Historical Association where the collection is displayed in the Lager Mill Beer Museum. Bob was a member of the Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor Club and enjoyed the camaraderie of the club sharing stories of his trips to Germany and practicing a little German. Bob was a talented, generous, loving person. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Virginia Sampsen Rossler, with whom he just celebrated 33 years of marriage; his sister, Terry Strini of Hurley; his daughter, Kimberly Rossler Neville; son-in-law, David; granddaughter, Hannah; and grandson, John, all of Austin Texas. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Virginia Shirley Sampsen; brother-in-law, Mark Sampsen; and many members of the Sampsen McGloughlin families, mostly of Olivebridge., and by several aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Per Bob's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor Club at 37 Greenkill Ave Kingston, N.Y., or charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale, (www.GJMoylanFuneralHome.com)

To the Rossler Family,
I just heard of the passing of a loving person to all of us. My prayers are with the family always. I was devastated to hear of the passing of such a wonderful man. I know this is a late entry. Bob was a very special friend to me. I am sorry I wasn't able to participate in his memorial. He will be in our prayers at my church. He is now out of pain and will be in the after life with a woman he was so close to, his mother.

Kim and Rossler Family,
We want to express our sincere sympathy to you all and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I met Bob many years ago and he was always very kind. I recall taking him to meet "Spooley the Train Man" in Buffalo where he saw a model train "State" set which was very valuable to collectors. I visited with him briefly in 2007 when attending a function at Hyde Park. It was so good to talk with him. With our sincere sympathy, Bill & Pat Williams

I'm shocked to read of Bob's passing. I left Rosendale many years ago but still remember his wonderful family. The last time I saw him was at Williams lumber but mind still remembers the good times we had in his home town.
May God bless his soul and his family too.
