Frank Ebelheiser Sr. Obituary
Frank Ebelheiser, Sr. HURLEY- Frank G. Ebelheiser Sr., 89, former Myer Elementary School teacher died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at home. Born on March 12, 1929 in Kingston; he was the son of Frank J. and Mathilda Ebelheiser. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Ebelheiser was a graduate of Kingston High School and SUNY New Paltz. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. An avid and downhill skier, Mr. Ebelheiser played varsity basketball and baseball for four years at New Paltz. He was a member of Delta Kappa fraternity. Upon graduation, he was an elementary school teacher for several years in the Middletown district before joining the Myer Staff in 1957. He taught at Myer School in Hurley for 37 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Ebelheiser ran the Town of Hurley Recreation Adult, Senior, and Junior High basketball and the intramural basketball program at the school for over 30 years. He also served on the Hurley Summer Recreation Program. Mr. Ebelheiser was a member of the K.T.F. and K.R.T.F, the Kingston Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame, the Hurley Social Club and various other groups. He also played softball in various town softball leagues well into his sixties. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Landers) Ebelheiser whom he married in 1951; three sons, William, Kevin, and Frank, Jr.; and a daughter, Kathy Ann Detoro; as well as ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue. Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
