Sidney S. Castle Obituary
Sidney (Sid) S. Castle CATSKILL- Sidney S. Castle, 85, a long time native of Catskill, N.Y., passed peacefully on May 25, 2018 in Melbourne, Fla., surrounded by loved ones. Sid was a graduate of Catskill High School and attended the University of Miami, Fla., and Siena College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a microwave radio repairman and an Army Reservist from 1956 to 1962 out of Camp Kilmer, N.J. Sid began his career at IBM Corporation in 1956 as a Production Technician. Over the next 36 years he worked at the Kingston, Poughkeepsie, and Fishkill locations until he retired as Senior Engineering Manager in 1992. Sid was a lifelong learner and an avid student of history, astrophysics, and autobiographies. He enjoyed many hobbies, and especially helping people with their genealogy. research. Sid was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Catskill, N.Y., serving on a variety of church and school committees and Boards. He was also an active member of the Greene County Historical Society, and volunteered at the New York State Library in Albany, N.Y. Sid is survived by his wife, Marcia, and their ten children and their many grandchildren. Sid was the beloved only child of Sidney and Catherine (Stauder) Castle. In 1957, Sid married Emily (Maguire) Castle, the daughter of James and Emily (Lithgow) Maguire, in Catskill, N.Y., where they raised their two sons, Joseph Castle (Round Top, N.Y.) and James Castle (Coxsakie, N.Y.), until Emily’s death in April 1985. Sid married Marcia M. Englert in November 1985 creating a large blended family with Marcia’s eight children from a prior marriage (Dr. Paul D. Englert) who are Jayne Englert-Burns(Michael), Paul D. Englert, Jr., Georgia Stephanie (“Stevie”) Englert-Long (Tom), Mark Englert (Maura), Phillip Englert (Karen), Marcia “MJ” (Englert) Walters (Edward), Matthew Englert, and Mary (Englert) Johannessen (Paul). Sid and Marcia moved to Melbourne, Fla., in March 2014 to enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine. While meeting new friends in Florida, Catskill was never far from Sid’s heart and thoughts as he always considered Catskill home. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 80 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, N.Y., followed immediately by a graveside service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill, N.Y.
