Marilyn Goddard WOODSTOCK- Marilyn Goddard, of Woodstock, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at home, listening to Strauss: Lieder; she was 89. Marilyn was born in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up inWorcester, Mass., and on the beaches of Cape Cod, which she loved. A graduate of Pratt Institute School of Costume Design, Marilyn was a part of the art scene in Woodstock since 1952. She created couture fashions, concert gowns, wedding gowns and menswear, and taught several generations the art of fine sewing at her Goddard Sewing School, over a span of more thanfifty years. She recreated the historic "Woodstock dress", in the early 1970's. A lover of all the arts, she had made costumes for PAW and taken the occasional role, sung in church choirs and Ars Choralis, run the rummage department at the Library Fair and was once a regular on Mary Margaret MacBride's radio program. She was also known as an expert contra dancer at the Woodstock dances. She was predeceased by her husband, Ted "Doc" Goddard and her brother Ralph Jaeggli of North Carolina. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Goddard and Suzanne Cranston, her grandsons, Peter Dennis, Brenton Dennis and Evan Dennis, as well as four great-grandsons and many generations of nieces, nephews and cousins; and all her dear friends remaining in the Woodstock Area. If anyone would care to make a donation in lieu of flowers, Marilyn would like to thank the Woodstock Library or Woodstock Rescue Squad. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
