Audrey H. Sheppard

Audrey H. Sheppard NEW PALTZ- Audrey H. Sheppard, of New Paltz, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at her home in New Paltz, N.Y. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and the late Elva Huddleston Hamilton. She married Douglas Howard Sheppard on Oct. 4, 1952 at the Old Christ Church in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Sheppard died on Jan. 22, 2008. Audrey was a graduate of West Chester University with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Vandenberg School of Practice and was a long time secretary to Dr. Patsis at SUNY New Paltz. After she retired she was a regular volunteer at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Audrey was a member and an Elder of the Reformed Church of New Paltz. She was very active in the community, being involved with many American Cancer Society fund raising drives and other charities. Audrey was a member of SUNY New Paltz Faculty Wives and Women. Member and Past President of the New Paltz Study Club, New Paltz Garden Club, Chapter A PEO, and the VFW Brannen-vanden Berg Post # 8645 Ladies Auxiliary, New Paltz, N.Y., and the American Association of University Women. In 1974 she was appointed by the Governor of New York State and confirmed by the Senate and Assembly as Trustee of the Senate House, Kingston, N.Y. Audrey loved to host luncheons and play bridge with her many friends. Surviving are two nieces, Stori and her husband Joseph Felker of Atlanta, Ga., and Wendi Knowles of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Douglas Stephen Sheppard and Jeffrey Sheppard, and a sister, Mary Ann Sperow. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the The Reformed Church of New Paltz, New Paltz, 92 Huguenot Street, New Paltz, N.Y., with the Rev. Mark Mast, Pastor, officiating. Cremation took place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
