CARL GENRICH Obituary

Carl Barber Genrich Jr. of Buffalo Grove Carl Barber Genrich Jr., was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Indianapolis, IN, to Carl B. and Christianna (nee Spitz) Genrich. He died Nov. 6, 2012, surrounded by his family. Carl was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University on the G.I. Bill. Carl received a Pittsburgh Plate Glass Fellowship to attend University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Master of Public Administration from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He worked for the planning departments for Indianapolis, IN, Pittsburgh, PA and the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission. He served on the Buffalo Grove Planning Commission for 17 years and was chairman for 10. Carl taught city planning courses at Roosevelt University in Chicago. He was an executive recruiter working in industry, the medical field and law. To fulfill his love of gardening, Carl earned his master gardener certificate from the University of Illinois. He also was an avid volunteer at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Buffalo Grove, donating his time to P.A.D.S., Meals on Wheels, sponsoring a Vietnamese boat family and was involved in many other church committees. Carl is survived by his wife, Bonnie (nee Frazier); his children, Mark E. (Marie) Genrich and Christianna (H. Richard) Hagen; his grandchildren, Cara E. Morris, Anna C. Genrich, Michaela C. Hagen, Miles A. Hagen and Dane M. Hagen; and his brother, Allen J. (Judy) Genrich. Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Genrich; and his parents. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, and Friday, Nov. 9, at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 410 W. Dundee, Buffalo Grove, IL, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, with military honors.
