Norman Ivar "Swede" Ekstrom of St. Charles, formerly of North Aurora Norman Ivar "Swede" Ekstrom, age 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Delnor- Community Hospital in Geneva. He was born May 31, 1915 in Wasco, IL, the son of Jack and Linnea Ekstrom. He was united in marriage to Margaret Erickson on September 28, 1940 in Batavia. Norman proudly served his country with the United States Navy Seabees during WWII. He retired as an electrician with IBEW Local 461. He is survived by his children, Priscilla (Robert) Reiseck of Waterford, CA, Eileen (Jerry) Coble of Norco, CA, Jack (Helen) Ekstrom of North Aurora, James (Mary) Ekstrom of Hot Springs, SD, Mildred Ekstrom of St. Charles, and Darlene (Joeshayne) Meloun of Elburn; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Richards of North Aurora; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Norman is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret; his two sisters, Elsie Wallingford and Alice Tarnow. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be divided between charities and museums in the area.
