ARNOLD POTTER Obituary

WAUCONDA - Arnold W. Potter, age 94, was a lifelong resident of Wauconda. Arnold was the beloved husband of the late Laverne (nee Lincoln); loving father of Cynthia, Warren, Mark and the late Susan (Douglas) Tomsha; cherished grandfather of Sean, Kyle, Angelica, Gabrielle and Felicia; proud great grandfather of Daniel and Mason; dear brother of the late Melvin and Kenneth. Arnold was born September 10, 1919, in Wauconda to the late Otis and Amelia and passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. Arnold grew up in Wauconda, attending the local schools and Bradley University. He joined the Army prior to Pearl Harbor and remained in service until the defeat of Japan. During a short leave, he was married to his beloved wife LaVerne. They had a great life together for the following 38 years until her death in 1981. After being married, he then went overseas for the next 2-½ years in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was later destined to meet Mary Cook, who became a true lasting friend and companion for the balance of her life. After his discharge from the Army, Arnold worked his entire career in the construction industry. He played a major role in the construction of many schools, churches and other structures. He was then employed by the Village of Wauconda as a building inspector for another 4 years. He was a member of Wauconda School Board, a founding member of the Wauconda Park District Board and the local chapter of the Bicycle Society. He was a long time member of the Wauconda American Legion Post # 911 and the Wauconda Federated Church. Visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2014, from 4-8 pm at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda, IL. 60084 and on Friday, September 12, 2014, from 10:30 am to time of funeral service 11 am at the Wauconda Federated Church, 200 S. Barrington Rd., Wauconda, IL 60084.
