1930 - 2017
Cip Siete passed away Friday April 21, 2017 at Presence Hospital. Cip was born in Elgin at Sherman Hospital on November 14, 1930 to Cayetano and Raquel Siete. One of 14 children, Cip attended St. Joseph grade school and graduated from St. Edwards High School. With his parents both deceased at a young age, Cip entered the Air Force in 1951, where he received his training as a military police officer. He would then be assigned to the Office of Special Investigations, training with a small squad of men whose mission was to infiltrate air bases around the country, testing their level of security. He did that for about a year, completed his four years and returned to Elgin. On February 17, 1958 he put on his uniform and became the first Hispanic police officer in Elgin where he became a detective and later in 1970 became a sergeant and retired in 1981. It was during his time on the police force he had the opportunity to earn college credits through courses at NIU, all around law enforcement. April 22, a day after his death, marked exactly 40 years ago that the Club Guadalupano awarded Cip their first citizen award for community service. He was instrumental in getting members of the Hispanic Elgin community involved in civic matters. Upon retiring he became the manager of Security for Sears at their Spring Hill store, retiring from there in 1993. Later that same year he became a Deputy Sheriff with Kane County, at the courthouse in Geneva. He retired from there in March 2005 due to some health issues. Cip was a lifelong Cubs fan, learned and enjoyed playing golf during his years at the courthouse, was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 57, VFW, Eagles, lifelong member of the IPA and volunteered for many church events and cancer walks. He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings who died at birth, his brothers Rupert, Domingo, Frank, and Don, sisters Angeline and Mary and an infant son Donald. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughters Rebecca (Mike) Zimmermann, Cathy Rae Siete, Alice (Keith) Nevel, Cip (Roz) Siete, Jr., Dennis (Jeanne) Siete, Stephanie Siete, Sarah (Andre) Filardo, Linda's daughter Lindsay (Chris) Jensen, sister Rafaela Perez, brother Joseph Siete, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin from 3-7 pm with a funeral mass on Monday at 10 am at St. Joseph's Parish in Elgin. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Cip's name to St. Joseph Church building fund, Club Guadalupano Scholarship Fund or Centro de Informacion.
