On Uncle Dave’s Passing
Uncle Dave's passing represents the end of our parents' generation and brings up fond and sentimental childhood memories of my family in Chicago. Our parents accomplished wonderful things as 1st generation Americans. They provided roofs over our heads, clothing, and food. Beyond the basics, they also gifted us with what many of them would have liked for themselves but never had--great educations and the resulting independence that provided us the ability to give sustenance to our children and grandchildren. What a blessed achievement!
My Mom, Dad, Uncle Dave, Big Aunt Moshie, Aunt Sophie, Uncle Harry, Little Aunt Moshie, Uncle Gus and Sid, are the people I loved first in life. They are my bedrock and anchor. My earliest years among the Chicago cousins are among my most joyful! Through them I learned all I have ever known, all I have had to know, about love of family.
Since that long-ago time, our generation of cousins has traveled different paths. Some of our beloveds are no longer with us, some have children and grandchildren of our own, but we share a common legacy that was passed down from our parents and grandparents. Being cherished and nurtured by our family has given us, in turn, the ability to love, nuture, dream and achieve the important goals of our generation. Uncle Dave, may you be dancing the Hora in heaven, with your beloved Aunt Moshie. Rest in peace.
