1933 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
ROLLING MEADOWS - Donald J. Friske Sr., 80, died Jan. 25, 2014. He was born July 25, 1933, in Tomahawk, Wis. He had worked as a butcher for Jewel Foods for over 35 years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Donald was the husband of the late Patricia; father of Lu Ann (the late Donald) Jensen; Donald Jr. (Joy), David (Mary), Daniel (the late Sheila), Lori (John) Rabyk, Douglas (Kristyn) and the late Darren Friske; grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of five; brother of Jack, Jerry and James Friske, Patricia Nicolini and Mary Osuch, and the late Pauline Wenckaitis, Alice Pate, Bud and Robert Friske. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dad was tough but consistent. Worked hard, provided for us all. Always. You knew where he was coming from. Always. And he was there always, in all ways, to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Gramps loved his grandchildren, and, as Papa, delighted in his great-grandchildren. Loved fishing on a lake in his native Wisconsin, with his brothers and his sons and later his grandsons. Rode with the wind in his hair on his motorcycle. When that was put aside, wore out his shoes walking everywhere he could around and about Rolling Meadows. Above all else and through it all, Dad had an undying loved and adoration for our cherished mother, who said she knew from the moment she saw him he would be hers forever. He was... and he is. We are so sure mom, whom we lost weeks ago, and our youngest sibling, uncle and great-uncle Darren, whom we lost just a year ago, were waiting with open arms to be with dad once again. "Be at peace with us," they whispered, and he is. We miss them, all three, and find comfort in knowing they are together. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. Funeral Wednesday 10:30 a.m. from the funeral chapel, proceeding to St. Colette Church for Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
