Doreen Mae Myers formerly of Elgin (1961 to 2008) Doreen Mae Myers, 86, was born Jan. 25, 1926, in York, Pa., and passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. Doreen married Rev. Carl E. Myers on June 7, 1947. He survives. Also surviving are her son, Stephen Merryweather of Nevada City, Calif.; daughters, Judith A. (Dick) Myers-Walls of Lafayette, Ind., Linda M. (Lee) Swanson of Elgin, Ill. and Karen (Clay) Myers-Bowman of Manhattan, Kan.; brother, Jay K. Crist of York, Pa., and seven grandchildren. She graduated from North York (Pa.) High School, attended Manchester College and earned her B.A. degree in English from Elizabethtown College. She was active in Wakiya Council of Camp Fire, Inc. and was hospitality chairperson for Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren for many years. She enjoyed words, word games and rewriting lyrics to songs to fit special events. She was a longtime active member of the Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren, Elgin, Ill. Services will be on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 Beckley St., North Manchester, Ind., where the family will receive friends following services. Pastor Kurt Borgmann will officiate. Burial will be in Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden, North Manchester. A memorial service at Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren, Elgin, Ill., will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to Church World Service, P.O. My condolences to Karl and the family on the loss of Doreen. I recall her as a lovely woman when I knew her in Elgin.
