DORIS DRIESBACH Obituary

Doris "Maggie" Elaine Driesbach January 25, 1923 - January 15, 2019 Doris "Maggie" Elaine Driesbach, 95, passed away on January 15, 2019 at Wynscape Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton after being in failing health for several years. Maggie was born January 25, 1923 in Rockford, Illinois to the late John Arvid Magnuson and Julia Johnson. She was one of the top students in her class at Rockford High School, and excelled at all of her studies, but especially in art. Maggie met her future husband David F. Driesbach while in junior high school, and they remained friends while he went off to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II. Upon his return, they struck up a romance, and married on December 21, 1946, the beginning of 72 years of married bliss. David taught printmaking at several universities; meanwhile, he and Maggie welcomed five children into the family: John (Janice) Driesbach of Akron, Ohio, Julie (John) Nelson of Quincy, Illinois, Elizabeth (Paul) Eisen of Menasha, Wisconsin, Emily (Craig) Wolffing of Green River, Wyoming, and Carrie (Robert) Provost of Wheaton, Illinois. David finished his illustrious career at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Maggie immersed herself as a mother and homemaker, using her expert seamstress skills to sew beautiful clothes for all four of her daughters. She was a natural at striking up conversations with strangers, so as the children got older, she took over the DeKalb Welcome Service, greeting all newcomers in a warm and gracious manner. She also worked for the Illinois Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, treating all of the applicants with dignity and a smile. As one of her granddaughters noted, " She was a wonderful woman who believed in liking everyone." Maggie dearly cherished her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage, and loved to dance with David while wearing her red shoes. Maggie is survived by her husband David, and all of her descendants. The family wishes to thank the tireless staff at Wynscape for their loving care to Maggie over the last few years. A celebration of Maggie's life will be held this summer at Wyndemere in Wheaton. We are saddened by your loss. You are all in our thoughts. I feel blessed to have a "portrait" of her hanging in my house! I am the proud owner of one of Davids prints, "Too Loud" where she is pictured as a neck tie!
We wish we had met her, she sounds like a wonderful lady!
