1932 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
VILLA PARK - Emma Jean (Iftner) Pritchett, age 85, formerly of Barry, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy, IL. She was born on November 8, 1932 in Barry, IL to Andrew and Gertrude Carrel Iftner. Emma Jean graduated from Barry High School in 1949. Too young then to go to college, she began working at Moorman's for a few years before attending St. Johns School of Nursing where she received her BSN Degree and Anesthetist Degree. Emma Jean was one of the first female Anesthetist in Illinois. After finishing her schooling, she began working at Blessing Hospital in Quincy for 3 years. She then moved to the big city of Chicago and began working at Elmhurst Memorial for 33 years, not using a single sick day. After retiring, Emma Jean enjoyed travelling and visited other countries as long as her health permitted. She also liked gardening reading, playing the piano, and singing. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Villa Park, where she was a 12 years delegate for annual conference. Emma Jean was also a member of the Abby Carolers in Elmhurst. She taught English to Spanish speakers and was a food bank volunteer many years, driving a 4WD to deliver the food. Emma Jean was intelligent, strong willed, funny, and a true joy. She is survived by a son, Michael Pritchett, Sr. of Nebo, IL; two grandchildren, Michael Pritchett, Jr. of Hull, IL and Dalton Pritchett of Baylis, IL; two great-grandchildren, Allyson Pritchett and Bradley Pritchett; and a sister, Patricia (David) Sprague of Plainville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joe Pritchett; and two sisters, Carolyn (Dennis) Cole and Martha (Otis) Wolfe. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Calvary United Methodist Church.
