Harriet was born on November 4, 1932 to John F. and Olive Mueller in Rockford, Illinois and grew up in the small town of Little Chute outside of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1950 and from the Evangelical Deaconess School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1954. On June 30, 1956, Harriet married her husband Richard A. Lehmann. Family gatherings were important events for Harriet as she wished that all of those who meant the most to her were gathered together in one place. Harriet was a proficient knitter, she could always be found with a skein of yarn and knitting needles by her side. One of her many accomplishments is that she had knitted an afghan for every member of her large family.
