JAMES F. BACAK Obituary
James F. Bacak, 74, of Elgin passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Advocate Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born on November 7, 1944 in Elgin the son of Frank & Alfreda Schmidgall Bacak. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Gerber Bacak; a son Timothy (Meredith), a daughter Carrie Bacak; grandchildren: Kyler, Alexander, Nicholas, Kaelin, Keaton, Finley, and Rowen, and a sister Darlene Erlandsen. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim was a lifelong Elgin resident. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1962. Jim was employed by Elgin Sweeper Company for 40 plus years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was a 30 plus year member of the Elgin Lions Club. He will be remembered for his love of golf, woodworking, and the White Sox. He was a big fan of his grandkids' sports teams and an avid spectator of their events and school activities. Jim was known to enjoy travel with his wife and family where many fond memories were made, and he was always there to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbors. Jim was very active in his community being involved in Little League, the YMCA sponsored Indian Guides, and Cub Scouts over the years. Most notably, Jim volunteered countless hours as a member of the Elgin Lions Club where he served in all capacities including President, and he chaired the annual charity golf outing. In addition, Jim helped with many other fundraising activities within the organization throughout the years. He will also be known for sitting on the front porch in the evenings performing his nightly neighborhood "surveillance duties," organizing Elm St. block parties, putting on 4th of July firework shows for the kids, and being a fan of Uncle Lar and Lil' Tommy's Animal stories on WLS. Although not being too fond of fire, Jim frequently dragged the kids out of the house on warm summer evenings chasing the sirens of fire trucks. More times than not, those chases ended at Dairy Queen. Most of all Jim will be remembered for his love, dedication, and the willingness to help his family, friends, and community. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 4-8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elgin Lions Club care of Laird Funeral Home 847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
