1930 - 2019 Obituary Condolences
Jean Hurst Long, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 11, 2019, with her sons by her side. She was born to George and Isabelle Hurst on March 7, 1930 in Joliet, IL. She was a graduate of Amundsen High School in Chicago, attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Northeastern University. Jean married the love of her life, Harry J. Long in 1952 and in 1959 built a new home together in Lake Forest, IL, where they raised three children, James, Laura and Gordon. Jean was a lover of the arts, especially all types of drawing and painting, which she practiced all her life and was a founding member of the Women's Garden Club of Lake Forest, which she enjoyed immensely. Before returning to her native Illinois, she spent several years living in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she loved the colorful desert vistas and landscapes which are an artist's dreamland. To all who knew her, she will most certainly be remembered for her kindness, quick smile, and her unforgettable laugh. She is survived by her sons, James P. (Sara) Long and Gordon C. Long; brother James W. (Annabelle) Hurst; grandchildren, Jackson and Matthew (James), Laura, Ryan, Shannon (Gordon). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry J. Long and her daughter Laura Ann Long. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be from Noon until time of service at 2 pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville, with a luncheon immediately following at the residence of Gordon Long, 1470 Greenbrier Drive, Green Oaks, IL 60048.
